What is carry-on baggage and how can I purchase it?

It is a small piece of baggage with a maximum weight of 22 Lb and dimensions not exceeding 14x22x10 in., including wheels and handles, which must be placed in the overhead compartments of the aircraft.

Please note: 

• Carry-on baggage only applies to adults and children, infants (0 to 2 years old) are not included.
• When your carry-on baggage does not meet the dimensions, weight or number of pieces allowed in the cabin, it will be checked as hold baggage and may incur an additional charge.
• If your carry-on baggage exceeds the hold baggage conditions (overweight, oversized or overweight baggage allowance)it will be checked as additional baggage.
• When your carry-on baggage is subject to space availability,It will be marked with the conditional tag standby bag.
• When buying at duty free stores (In Bond - Duty Free), at airports, the products must be transported in sealed packaging, be tamper proof and prove that it was purchased at the mentioned stores.

In your hand luggage you should carry all those items that fit the size of your luggage and that are delicate or valuable . Here is a list of some of the items we recommend you carry in your hand luggage: 

• Irreplaceable, fragile or high-value items: art, jewellery, money, personal papers, valuable documents, medical records and documentation, glasses, keys, branded pens or styluses, antiques, medicine, among others.
• Electronic goods and their accessories: computers, household appliances, photographic equipment, medical equipment, mobile phones, data storage devices (such as MP3 players, USB sticks, external disks, etc.), digital tablets, video game consoles, digital diaries and any other electronic equipment including software or components, televisions, radios or similar items.
• Please note that the transport of electronic cigarettes, loose lithium batteries and external portable chargers (power banks) is prohibited in checked baggage. They must always be stowed in carry-on baggage.

Declaration of valuable items

It is very important that if you are travelling with any valuable items you declare them at the airport, as this will help us to initiate the compensation process if any unforeseen event or irregularity occurs with your luggage. It is very important that you prove the amount of damage or loss in order to receive the respective compensation up to the applicable liability limit.

Liquids in containers of no more than 100 ml are allowed in your hand luggage. They must be contained in a transparent plastic bag with an adhesive seal or zip with a maximum capacity of 1 litre.

Liquids allowed

These must not exceed the established measures of 100 ml per product and 1 litre in total for all products.

• Gels.
• Aerosols.
• Hand disinfectant.
• Alcohol.

Exceptions in quantity and packaging

• Medicines.
• Liquids (including juices) or gels for diabetics or other medical needs.
• Bottles with breast milk, formula or juice.
• Packaged food for infants or young children up to two years of age.
• Food for travellers on special diets.

Restricted liquids

• Beverages: Waters, soups, syrups and otherbeverages.
• Cosmetic liquids: lotions, perfumes, oils (including toothpaste), creams, gels, shampoo.
• Products in pressurised packaging: shaving foams, deodorants, among others.

You must take these restrictions into account when departing from one airport to your destination or if you are connecting at another airport. The restrictions of the Control and Security Authorities vary depending on the airport where you are, so we recommend that you check with the corresponding airport authority about the restrictions and/or regulations in force before your trip. 

• When traveling with your baby, you can take the carriage on board with your carry-on baggage. The stroller will count as a personal item.
• Carriage on board the baby carrier is valid only on the Airbus A330 and Boeing 787. If you are traveling with a collapsible stroller in use, you can bring it up to the aircraft door. A crew member will stow it in the hold.
• It must comply with the same dimensions established by the airline for carry-on baggage: 55x35x25 cm (height, length, width), or whose sum of measures is equal to or less than 115 linear centimeters, including wheels and handles.

Conditions and restrictions

Umbrella type car, or fully collapsible, weight less than 20 lbs / 9kg	You can take it to the boarding gate, where you must check it in. You are exempt from baggage fees, as long as you fly with an infant.  Before boarding the aircraft, the car must be folded and may not be opened or used while on board. It may be placed in the overhead compartment of the cabin. If the car does not fit on the aircraft, it may be checked in at the boarding lounge and delivered to the aircraft door at the connecting or destination city.
Cars from 20 lb / 9 kg, up to 50 lb / 23 kg and/or not exceeding 158 cm / 62 inches in length, linear up to 230 cm / 90 inches in length	You must register it at the check-in desk. Please note that this type of car may generate an additional cost.* You cannot take it on board, as the baggage compartments are not designed for its transportation.

Here are some of the items that you can transport as hand luggage and do not generate any additional cost. Please note that these objects must not inconvenience other passengers, obstruct emergency exits, aisles or aircraft doors: 

Special items

For infants you can transport a nappy bag, cradle and pram. For people with special conditions you can transport orthopaedic devices, wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, canes, among others.

Medical articles

Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC), Variable Positive Airway Pressure (VPAP) or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). Dialysis devices with properly packaged batteries.

Before travelling, please note the following information and general recommendations: 

Flights to the United States

• If you carry more than one liquid, the sum of all liquids should not exceed 1 litre.
• Containers containing liquids, gels or aerosols must be packed in a transparent resealable plastic bag.
• If you shop at Duty Free at El Dorado airport in Bogota, your purchases will be handed over to the flight crew by airport security personnel and will be delivered to you upon arrival at your destination.
• On connecting flights, you can buy liquids, gels or aerosols of up to 100 millilitres.
• Powdered substances will be allowed in carry-on baggage only if they do not exceed 12 ounces or 340 grams. Prescription substances, infant formula or human remains have no weight restriction.

Other recommendations:

Bring your mobile devices with a fully charged battery before boarding. If not, you cannot enter the aircraft and must undergo an additional inspection. This requirement is part of a new regulation determined by the Transportation Security Administration.
